Our fundamental approach to business lies in the creation of long-term sustainable value for our consumers, customers, employees, shareholders and society as a whole. The Nestlé Corporate Business Principles, to which Nestlé Purina PetCare adheres, explain our basic responsibilities to these stakeholders, and openly state that we favour long-term business development over short-term profit. They include all nine principles of the UN Global Compact regarding labour standards, human rights, and the environment.
Here you will find more information about the Nestlé Corporate Business Principles, and Nestlé policy regarding the environment. For details of Nestlé Purina PetCare's partnerships in the pet care community in New Zealand, visit Community Partnerships.
Nestlé Corporate Business Principles
Ever since Henri Nestlé developed the first milk food for infants in 1867, and saved the life of a neighbour's child, the Nestlé Company has aimed to build a business based on sound human values and principles.
While our Corporate Business Principles will continue to evolve and adapt to a changing world, our basic foundation is unchanged from the time of the origins of our Company, and reflects the basic ideas of fairness, honesty, and a general concern for people. We are committed to the following Business Principles in all countries, taking into account local legislation, cultural and religious practices:
- Our business objective is to manufacture and market the Company's products in such a way as to create value that can be sustained over the long-term for shareholders, employees, consumers, and business partners.
- We do not favour short-term profit at the expense of successful long-term business development.
- We recognise that our consumers have a sincere and legitimate interest in the behaviour, beliefs and actions of the Company behind brands in which they place their trust, and that, without its consumers, the Company would not exist.
- We believe that, as a general rule, legislation is the most effective safeguard of responsible conduct, although in certain areas, additional guidance to staff in the form of voluntary business principles is beneficial in order to ensure that the highest standards are met throughout the organisation.
- We are conscious of the fact that the success of a corporation is a reflection of the professionalism, conduct and the responsible attitude of its management and employees. Therefore, recruitment of the right people and ongoing training and development are crucial.
- We continue to maintain our commitment to follow and respect all applicable local laws in each of our markets.
Details of our global policies in all of these areas can be found on the website of our parent company, Nestlé SA at www.nestle.com.
Nestlé Purina PetCare New Zealand recognises its corporate, social and ethical responsibilities. We follow the Nestlé Corporate Business Principles with stringency, and in many areas have appended our own specific policies internationally, on our parent company website.
