Sheep dog trials

For nearly 40 years, Nestle and its predecessors have been a major supporter of the NZSDTA - one of the longest running sponsorships in New Zealand.

Each year, the TUX name can be seen at over 150 club events around the country, culminating in the Island Championships in May and the New Zealand Championships in June.

The top competitors then get to represent New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman Test Series.

The inclusion of the innovative TUX Yarding Challenge into the NZSDTA sponsorship programme has added a new dimension to sheep dog trialing in New Zealand.

The challenge was created by Nestle Purina National Rural Manager, Barry Wallace. It is a more spectator-friendly event than traditional trials. On a course laid out in a small arena, the dog must drive sheep through a number of obstacles and gates which constitute the letters T, U and X, eventually penning the sheep in a small yard.
